On
May 8 Pineville competed in the State Competition for the Cleanest City,
having advanced in District Competition. Pineville competed against three
other cities and judges were on hand to review the progress that had been

On
May 3 the City of Pineville's Administrative offices had some new helpers.
At least two Pineville employees brought their sons to work as part of the
National "Take Your Sons To Work" Day. In the picture at left Madeleine
Westberry receives some extra help from her son Cody in the Tax
and Occupational License Office. The picture at right shows Rich Dupree
and his Executive Assistant-Assistant for the day, his son Joe.

By Presidential Proclamation, Thursday, May 3 was
declared National Day of Prayer.
Many
Pineville residents joined together on the steps of City Hall to pray for
our City, our State and our Country. They were joined by representatives
of the city, including Mayor Clarence Fields, Police Chief
Stanley Rogers, Public Works Director Charlie Moore and several
city employees from various departments. Several local ministers were also
in attendance and led in prayer for the city employees. (Click

During
the May 2 meeting of the Pineville Downtown Development District
the District received a $10,000 "seed money" grant from the Rapides
Parish Police Jury. The Downtown Development District was created by the State Legislature last year, but this is the first time the board has
received any funding for their development efforts. Last month, The City of Pineville and the District entered into a cooperative endeavor to provide office space at the Main Street Community Center.

On April 28, 2001 Opening Ceremonies for Pineville Youth
Baseball were held at the Recreation Complex located at 300 Hickory
Street. The City of Pineville also dedicated two
new baseball fields: the Lee J. Broussard
Field, name for the beloved long time City
Councilman
and the Jettie Wiggins Field, named for a civic pioneer who's own
backyard saw many baseball dreams begin. In the picture at right (click to
enlarge) Pineville Councilwoman Carrie Broussard is surrounded by family
and friends as she cuts the ribbon to dedicate the Lee J. Broussard Field.
The picture on the left is one of the cakes that participants shared
together as refreshments.
The
City of Pineville has entered into a cooperative agreement with the
Pineville Downtown Development District to lease the District office
space at the Main Street Community Center. The PDDD was created by the
State Legislature for the primary purpose of redevelopment of the central
business district. In the picture Mayor Clarence Fields signs the
agreement as PDDD President Sue Miller looks on. The other
commissioners are
Horace Austin, Tom David, John Dennis, Diana Hyde, Jackie Lloyd
and
Franklin McClammy. The PDDD meets the first Tuesday of the month,
at 7pm, in City Council chambers.

The
City of Pineville won it's District competition for the Cleanest City
Contest and will now advance to State Competition on May 8. To the right

At the April 10 City Council meeting the Mayor and City Council recognized Joseph Perez-Montes, Ryan Garrett, Michael Hathorn Jeff Easley, William Nixon and Levy Leatherman who are representing the Pineville High School Debate Team and the Louisiana Bar Association in the National Mock Trial Competition, on May 10 in Omaha, Nebraska. Mr. Terry Aubin with the Wilbert Saucier Law Firm has given a tremendous amount of time and effort preparing these students for competition. Four of these boys, Joseph Perez-Montes, Ryan Garrett, Jeff Easley and William Nixon, also are going to New York City to compete in the Catholic Forensic League National Debate Tournament on May 24th.
The Mayor and City Council also recognized Chantz Wilkinson of Pineville who competed in the Louisiana B.A.S.S. Casting Kids Tournament. Chantz is the New State Champion in the 7-10 age group! Congratulations Chantz!!!
Pineville High School is seeking alumni to form an Alumni Association. Organizers hosted a very successful "Farewell and Forward Day" at PHS on Saturday, January 6. This event allowed the community to tour both the existing facility and the new facility nearing the first phase of completion. For more information email pabsmith@hotmail.com.
The Pineville Youth Basketball League finished up a very successful season on Saturday, February 17, 2001. Plans are underway for next year's season. For more info and photos, click PYBL!
Boy
Scout Troop 49 was honored during the November, 2000 City Council meeting for
their cleanup efforts on the Pineville Historical Trail. Mayor Clarence
Fields gave all the participating Scouts a patch for their efforts. The
troop members also stayed through the council meeting to earn a
"Citizenship in the Community" merit badge. (Click
