Sales Tax Rededication Passes

The citizens of Pineville have spoken regarding the rededication of the 1 cent sales tax enacted in 1978. In the July 21st vote 512 (83%) voted YES and 108 (17%) voted NO to allow 1/2 of the tax to be used to purchase equipment such as trash and garbage trucks, tractors and other heavy equipment. This tax was formerly restricted to only be used for capital improvements, such as roads and buildings. The rededication will allow Pineville to upgrade its aging heavy equipment and thus offer better services to all citizens. Final official results can be seen at the Louisiana Secretary of State's web page.

Ward 9 Recreation District

The first meeting of new commissioners of the Ward 9 Recreation District was held Wednesday, July 13th, in the Conference Room of Pineville City Hall. Originally created by the State Legislature in 1976, this corporate body has never officially been active until Police Juror Ward 9 Recreation District CommissionersSteve Bordelon and Pineville Mayor Clarence Fields began to discuss ways to improve recreation in Pineville. The Rapides Parish Police Jury appointed five new commissioners at their June 11th meeting. They are William Barron, Tony Brossette, Shelia Johnson, Fred Mills and Charlie Moore

Although the board of commissioners is a political subdivision of the State and independent of the Police Jury or the City of Pineville, both Bordelon and Fields offered their help and support as the group begins the task of planning for the recreation needs of our kids for the next several years.
