Zion Hill Baptist Church has broken ground on their new 1,100 seat Worship Center, to be located just off the Pineville Expressway, near Kelso Park. The honor of the first shovels of dirt went

Pineville
City Councilwoman Carol Cunningham shows off the "biggest catch
of the day" from Wednesday's VIP Tournament of the 2001 Women's Bass
Fishing Association. The one day event was a preview of the 2001 WBFA
World Classic Championship held on the Red River. Out of the 28 boats that
took off early that morning from the levee park Amphitheater, 17 returned
empty handed (maybe that's why Mayor Fields is not in the picture!).
Cunningham's fish weighed in at more than five pounds. To Cunningham's
right is Becky Moore, wife of Public Works director Charlie
Moore, who also was able to reel some in. Each VIP was paired with
professional angler, and a good time was had by all. (Click

Pineville Mayor
Clarence Fields was recently the guest speaker for the
Louisiana National Guard's Youth Challenge
Program Graduation Ceremonies. (Picture at left shows Mayor Fields along with Major General
Bennett Landreneau, head of the Louisiana National Guard along with one of
the graduates.) An overflow crowd at Louisiana
College's Guinn Auditorium
saw 205 young men and women from around the state, whose lives have been changed by the Youth Challenge Program, get their diploma.
Since it's inception in 1993, YCP has been helping at-risk adolescents gain a new lease on life. In May, competing against 26 other states who operate Youth Challenge Programs, the Louisiana National Guard's YCP took the top honors by the United Services Organization as the recipient of the Volunteer Service to Education's Best All-Around Award. YCP at Camp Beauregard runs two classes per year - January through June and from July through December. To be eligible to enroll, a teen-ager must be a Louisiana resident, drug free, have no felony convictions, a high school dropout and must volunteer to participate in the program. Participants are not obligated to enlist in the military upon graduation and there is no cost to participants or their families.
