Mayor Speaks at Elementary SchoolPineville Mayor Clarence Fields was the special guest of the J.I. Barron 4-H Club, Wednesday, November 7th, to speak about leadership and how city government works. It was also Mayor Fields' birthday and the class greeted the Mayor by singing "Happy Birthday" to him.
As a result of the 2000 Census the City of Pineville was charged with the task of reapportioning the districts for the election of Aldermen. The Census recorded 13,829 residents in the incorporated limits. According to law, all 5 City Council Districts must have approximately the same number of residents. The Census revealed that Districts 3 and 5 had too many residents and Districts 1, 2 and 4 didn't have enough.
After a several month process, the Mayor and City Council unanimously voted to accept the newly drawn Districts in a specially called City Council meeting on Tuesday, October 23rd. The newly adopted reapportionment map is posted for the public to see during regular business hours at City Hall. For your convenience, we present a comparison of the previous and the newly adopted districts below. The picture at left is the old reapportionment map. The picture at right is the new reapportionment map. Click on either picture for a larger view.
Members of the Pineville Fire Department filled the front row of the September meeting of the Pineville City Council, as Mayor Clarence Fields began the meeting asking everyone to stand for scripture reading by Reverend Nathan Martin, a moment of silence, prayer (hand-n-hand), and then a special song of remembrance of the tragedy that struck America on September 11, 2001. Needless to say ... the Pledge of Allegiance capped off a very emotional beginning to the regular monthly gathering that had been postponed from it's originally scheduled date of September 11th.
The Pineville Fire Department is also to be commended for raising $16,861.00 in funds for the families of the New York City Firefighters killed September 11th. In 15-hours of working the streets of Pineville, citizens responded generously to help the families of those firemen killed in the terrorist attacks. (Click on picture for larger view.)
