Mayor & City Honored

Pineville receives Community Achievement Award from Louisiana Municipal AssociationPineville Mayor Clarence Fields and the City of Pineville were both honored at the 65th Annual Convention of the Louisiana Municipal Association recently in Lake Charles. 303 cities, towns and villages were represented at the LMA awards banquet, which saw Mayor Fields installed as the District E Vice-President on the LMA's Executive Board. Mayor Fields will represent 6-parishes in Central Louisiana for the next year. That was not the only honor our city received, as Pineville won a 2001 LMA Community Achievement Award with first place in it's division (population 10,001-25,000)for the creation of "Pine Notes". The competition is co-sponsored by the Louisiana Department of Economic Development, and was the first first-place award Pineville has received from the LMA. The honor was even more special because each City Council member, Mayor Fields, and the City of Pineville received plaques marking the special award.


Top U.S. General visits PinevilleLt. Gen. Daniel James visits with Maj. Gen. Bennett C. Landreneau & Pineville Mayor Clarence Fields at Esler Airfield

Camp Beauregard and the progress of Esler Airfield brought the country's top U. S. Air National Guard leader to Pineville. Lt. Gen. Daniel James III (pictured in the center), director of the Air National Guard in Arlington, Virginia, toured Esler and had lunch with Pineville Mayor Clarence Fields (right) and Maj. Gen. Bennett C. Landreneau, Adjutant General of the Louisiana National Guard (on the left). James' visit was to tour the facilities and discuss a potential expansion of the Air National Guard's presence in Central Louisiana, that could generate as many as 200 more jobs locally. James is the son of Gen. Chappie James, the first African-American four-star general, and for whom a street in England Airpark is also named. The Air National Guard's top man left very impressed with Esler, and said he would do all he could to see that Esler was used to it's maximum capabilities.


Rev. Joshua Joy Dara welcomes the Pineville Downtown Development District to Zion Hill Baptist ChurchPDDD "On The Road"

The Pineville Downtown Development District took it's August monthly meeting "on the road", as they invited members of the community to join them for a tour of the new Zion Hill Baptist Church. Reverend Joshua Joy Dara (pictured) welcomed the group and explained how God had brought him to Pineville from Nigeria, and how God had brought his church to the new location just off the Pineville Expressway. Cenla Remembers

Pineville Mayor Clarence Fields and Alexandria Mayor Ned Randolph lead the Pledge of AllegianceThe Cities of Alexandria and Pineville hosted a Community-Wide Ecumenical Commemoration of September 11, 2001. 200+ voice choir from 6 local high schools Over 3,000 people attended "One in Sorrow, One in Hope", a musical and spiritual tribute to the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Pineville Mayor Clarence Fields and Alexandria Mayor Ned Randolph (pictured-right) set the tone of unity by beginning the program leading the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance. A 200+-voice choir of High School students (pictured-left) from across Cenla followed to lead a 90-minute stirring, and often times emotional cap to a day of remembrance. Many churches across our two cities had dismissed Wednesday evening services to join together for the community event. Cenla remembered ... and continues to remember daily those who gave of their lives, and pray for those protecting ours around the world.


Community Commemoration of 9-11

One in Sorrow, One in Hope - Community Commemoration of 9/11The Cities of Pineville and Alexandria are joining forces to host "One In Sorrow - One In Hope", an ecumenical commemoration of the one year anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon. The public is invited to join churches across Cenla who will come together on Wednesday, September 11th, 6:30pm, at the Riverfront Convention Center. Alexandria Mayor Ned Randolph and One in Sorrow, One in  Hope - A Community Commemoration of 9/11/01 Pineville Mayor Clarence Fields (pictured at the press conference with committee members Renee Craft, Rabbi Arnold Task, Rich Dupree, Rev. Jim Lofton, Charles Neal, Ann Masden, Yvonne Young, and Lynn Clayton) brought together approximately twenty-five ministers and civic leaders to plan this special community-wide worship service in honor of those who were killed by terrorists on September 11, 2001. Special music will be provided by a Community Choir of High Schoolers, Leo Day of New Orleans, Mickey Mangun of Alexandria, Rosa Fields of Pineville, and other well-known local vocalists. Program speaker will be Dr. Earl Grollman, a nationally known speaker and author in the field of crisis intervention.

Mayor Fields proclaims August 3 "LaCHIP Day" in PinevilleLaCHIP Day

Pineville Mayor Clarence Fields joined other Mayors around the state in declaring Saturday, August 3rd, LaCHIP Day in Pineville. LAChip offers no-cost health insurance for uninsured children from birth through their teens. Mayor Fields presented the proclamation to Pauline Kobleur (middle), Medicaid Area Supervisior for Rapides Parish BHSF, and Cyndi Funderburk, LaCHIP outreach coordinator at Christus Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria. Pineville officials check out the "sewer buddy" systemLooking for Answers

A delegation from the City of Pineville was in Charleston, South Carolina recently visiting with the North Charleston Sewer District. Advanced BioSystems flew the group to the East Coast to see the effects of the "Sewer Buddy" on the North Charleston System, and for a question and answer time with sewer district officials. Pineville Mayor Clarence Fields, Executive Assistant Rich Dupree, Public Works Director Charlie Moore, Wastewater Superintendent Paul Roberts, City Engineer Tom David and Dr. Jim Smith of Mid-South Environmental Services, made the trip July 29th-30th. Rotary's 2002 Business of YearPineville Business of the Year

The Rotary Club of Pineville awarded it's 2002 Business of the Year to Cajun Catfish House, located at 3400 Old Marksville Highway, in Pineville. Rotarians Rosa Fields (left) and Kirk Cooper (right) presented the award to Barbara Belgard (center), who has built the business from the ground up twice...once when it began, and then again after a fire destroyed the structure they first operated from. With a staff now 4-times what they started with...Mrs. Belgard thanked her faithful customers and employees that have made it such a popular place to eat. (Click on picture for larger view


Fields nominated to State Post

Pineville Mayor Clarence Fields won last month's nomination of area elected officials to serve a term as District E vice president of the Louisiana Municipal Association. If LMA officials ratify the nomination at its 65th annual convention in Lake Charles August 8 - 10, Mayor Fields will serve on the LMA's executive board. District E includes Catahoula, Concordia, Grant, LaSalle, Rapides and Winn parishes. The LMA is made up of over 300 cities, towns and villages in the State of Louisiana...and is a strong lobbying arm for local city governments. Alexandria Mayor Ned Randolph will be concluding a year of service as LMA President next month in Lake Charles.


Pineville High School - 50 Years of Memories"Pineville High School - 50 Years of Memories"

The Pineville High School Alumni Association is celebrating "50 Years of Memories" at PHS with events planned for August 9-10, 2002. The public is invited to participate in the events of August 10, which begin at 1:00 PM with a reception and tour of the facility as well as the unveiling of the new sign. A special commemorative program will begin at 2:30 and there will be a special Dinner and Dance that evening at the Alexandria Convention Hall. (Cost is $25.00 per person.)
