Louisiana’s largest city was the gathering place August 10th – 12th for elected officials from around the state. J. Lynn Lewis, mayor of Delhi (center), was installed as president of the Louisiana Municipal Association on Saturday, August 12, at the conclusion of the LMA's 69th annual convention, the state’s largest gathering of municipal officials, representing over 300 villages, towns and cities in Louisiana. Also installed Saturday night were Clarence R. Fields, mayor of Pineville (left), LMA first vice president, and Bill Robertson, mayor of Minden (right), LMA second vice president. Mayor Fields served as LMA second vice president last year and will become LMA’s highest ranking officer next August.
The City of Pineville was also recognized with a 2005 Community Achievement Award for outstanding achievement in basis services. Pineville was recognized for the city’s unified response to Hurricane Katrina and Rita, and how officials responded together to convert the old Pineville Wal-Mart into a small thriving community.
LMA’s 69th annual convention drew more than 1,300 delegates, spouses, exhibitors, guests, and dignitaries. Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco, U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu, U.S. Representatives Richard Baker, Charles Melancon, and Bobby Jindal, Lieutenant Governor Mitch Landrieu, Secretary of State Al Ater, Attorney General Charles Foti, Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Bob Odom, Insurance Commissioner James Donelon, and Miss Louisiana 2006 Jamie Wilson of Minden were among those headlining the state’s largest gathering of municipalities in the Capital City.
