WINNER CLEANEST CITY CONTEST 2010!

The Louisiana Garden Club Federation has named the City of Pineville the "2010 STATE'S CLEANEST CITY". Pineville won District "G", which was for cities with populations between 9,500 and 14,999. Pineville was competing against the Cities of Morgan City, Eunice, Denham Springs and Bastrop in the State finals.

The last week in March, Pineville was judged in District competition and advanced to the State Cleanest City Contest finals, which was the last week in April.

This is Pineville's fifth such award in the last eight years. After winning their district many times previously, Pineville was selected as the STATE'S CLEANEST CITY for the first time by the Louisiana Federation of Garden Clubs in 2003, and repeated in 2004, 2006, 2008 and now 2010. Pineville's entry is sponsored by the Alexandria Garden Club, which includes many Pineville ladies in its membership.

In 1958, the Louisiana Garden Club Federation, Inc. was first among members of the National Council of state Garden Clubs, Inc. to sponsor a statewide "Cleanest City Contest". 2008 marked the 50th consecutive year of this contest.

Pineville Mayor Clarence Fields says the victory is a  team effort. "This award is a victory for all city employees and our citizens. I really want to commend our Public Works Deparment, the Pineville Beautification Committee and the Alexandria Garden Club.  It is obvious that our citizens and employees share the same sense of passion and pride in our community and about litter abatement, and what we can accomplish when we work together."
