On May 19, 2003 Pineville High School held its commencement program for the class of 2003. The program began at 8:00 p.m. on the Rebel football field to a packed crowd in the D.C. "Bill" Bates Stadium. The weather was warm and it almost seemed like a Friday night football game. The band played a wonderful selection entitled "American Faces" that seemed to clear away any sad feelings and brighten the filled stadium. Proud parents, family, and friends cheered for the graduates as awards and scholarships were announced. As each graduate walked onto the platform to receive their diploma cheers and shouts could be heard along with groups of applause, an occasional foghorn, and even helium-filled balloons rising into the sky. The commencement program ended in true rebel fashion - the rebel cannon was shot as the graduates tossed their hats into the air!
The ceremony was announced by 2003 Class President Frank Jackson. Mr. Steve Berry, a District B member of the Rapides Parish School Board, was kind enough to present various awards. Principal Mr. Dwayne Lemoine acknowledged the students graduating with honors and scholarships, along with awarding diplomas later in the ceremony. Valedictorians this year included Codi Carpenter, Tiffany Cripps, and Jacob Tracy.
